- Quartz with Hematite
- Small Cabinet, 6.2 x 4.4 x 3.5 cm
- Jinlong Hill, Longchuan Co., Heyuan, Guangdong, China
- Ex. Dr. Stephen Smale
A sculptural, exceptionally three-dimensional Quartz-Hematite piece from Jinlong Hill, now a classic Chinese occurrence for this combination. Rosettes of black-brown, bladed Hematite crystals to over 2 cm are clustered at the base of the piece. Emerging from the top of the cluster is a spray of transparent Quartz crystals to 3 cm in length. Another cluster of Quartz crystals compliments the piece at the base dominated by a flat, 4.5 cm long crystal and several others. There is a trace of iron staining on the Quartz crystals for accent along with a few, tiny (2 mm) plates of Hematite along the prism faces. This is a very fine combo specimen beyond the normal quality expected of material from this locale that is often plagued by at least one broken Quartz crystal and remarkably none are missing on this one and ALL the terminations are perfect! For the size, it is among the best of its type in this size range I have seen for 3-dimensional balance and aesthetics. Ex. Steve Smale collection with label.
