Euclase
Lost Hope Mine, Mwami, Karoi District, Mashonaland West, Zimbabwe
Thumbnail, 2.8 x 2.0 x 1.9 cm

SOLD

Vivid, rich blue euclases like this came from small workings at this topaz mine in intermittent spurts from the 1960s onward. This unusually fine thumbnail from the Lost Hope mine is sharply formed and has three smaller crystals in parallel growth and two other very small crystals in random orientation. It exhibits a very intense blue color with the outer portion of the crystal gemmy. Under the right light you can see internal reflections sparkling from this gemmy layer just under the crystal's surface. The euclase is nicely terminated with super high luster and lightly striated prism faces. A few muscovite crystals are also present on the crystal. This is a rare, older specimen and the aesthetics are exceptional. Ex. Marilyn Dodge Collection.
