The famous find of highly attractive, yellow Smithsonites from Weinan, near Wenshan, actually occurred around 2003-2005, and was hoarded until a few years ago. This excellent small cab has beautiful, pure yellow color likely caused by traces of cadmium, not unlike the well-known Smithsonites from Tsumeb, Italy, and Mexico. The surface of the botryoidal Smithsonite is quite appealing, being velvety, translucent, and flashy all at the same time. From the side, you can appreciate the classic radial growth, and the Smithsonite even has an intense, purplish-pink fluorescence that was certainly unexpected. Weinan seems to have become a lost locality, as I have seen no specimens attributed to any recent collecting there.
