Scheelite
Morro Velho Mine, Nova Lima, Minas Gerais, Brazil
Miniature, 5.0 x 1.4 x 1.3 cm
SOLD

Elongate, sculptural, stacked, almost stalactitic orange-red, lustrous scheelite crystals in parallel growth from the Morro Velho gold mine in Brazil. A phenomenal scheelite specimen from anywhere, this gold mine produced some of the most dramatic scheelite specimens extant. Crystals that comprise this artistic stack are translucent and deeply colored; the edges of the stacked tetragonal crystal appear almost serrated. Accented by a single, tiny quartz crystal on the front and a smattering of a chlorite group mineral on the backside. The column is contacted at the top and bottom where it grew across the pocket. Ex. Lawrence Conklin collection with label. Unusual!
