Alabandite has surfaced in world class crystals and clusters from the Uchucchua silver mine over the last several years, but very few match the magnitude of these! Black to gun-metal crystals with a bluish iridescence in a large cluster with individuals to over 4cm, and SHARP, with luster, really unprecedented for the species! Crystals from this locality are some of the world's best examples! These impressive alabandite crystals are associated with contrasting small, pink rhodochrosite rosettes and nubby, tan-orange spheres of calcite (?). Although numerous specimens from the find are themselves great examples, this one stands out for sheer size of lustrous crystals and contrasting associations. While many came out, this is one of the better examples in the size range, overall.
