Plumbogummite on Quartz
Yangshuo Mine, Yangshuo Co., Guilin Pref., Guangxi Zhuang, China
Cabinet, 11.8 x 9.5 x 4.0 cm
Aesthetically, this is one of the few specimens which actually presents in the way we dream of, with a colorful and beautiful mineral leaping off of contrasting matrix. Most of the plumbogummite here formed as crusts on big rock walls, and the specimens reflect this - they tend to not have the "matrix appearance" to them. This piece, which might have been a the edge of a seam or pocket, has a rolling carpet of plumbogummite of excellent quality, that looks like it is flowing off the nice white rock matrix. It is, remarkably, free of damage. This is the only specimen with this kind of aesthetics that we recovered in good condition from a number of pieces bought in China for trimming and cleaning. It stands out, from the others, and to my taste in specimens. When possible, you want contrast. It just isn't always possible.
