Smithsonite
Touissit Mine, Oujda-Angad Province, Oriental Region, Morocco
Small Cabinet, 6.9 x 3.3 x 2.4 cm
SOLD
This smithsonite is from a rare, one-time find in the early 1980s. I never knew about it myself (and would have thought this a Tsumeb smithsonite), until talking with collector Francis Benjamin some years ago - he told me about the St Marie show they came out to market at that time and showed me his specimen from this pocket. Now that I have seen them, I recognize them immediately when they turn up on the market (almost invariably mislabeled as Tsumeb smithsonites). This one, however, is from the Moroccan collection of dealer/collector Victor Yount, and was correctly labeled. It is complete all-around (except only one tiny tip on the back) and has a pleasing pea-green color and excellent luster. Joe Budd photos.
