This is a unique, remarkable specimen that is a survivor of probably 100 years, and a mine long forgotten by most people. I, for one, had NO IDEA that the mine ever produced something of this magnitude! The piece probably came out in the early 1900s to 1920, and was long in the collection of Los Angeles collector Dr Stan Korfmacher. He recently passed away, and the collection was quietly dispersed within California. This is a one of a kind thing...and it is a CALIFORNIA SMITHSONITE THAT HAS ENOUGH COLOR AND IMPACT TO FIT In A WORLDWIDE SMITHSONITE SUITE! Unheard of! It was sold by famous oldtime dealer Ed Allbaugh to Stan, and still retains his label (Korfmacher collection itself had no labels to give out). This is, to me, intellectually and historically one of the most surprising things in my inventory and in this specimen update! Joe Budd Photos.
