Aegirine
Magnet Cove, Hot Spring County, Arkansas
Small Cabinet, 7.7 x 6.8 x 5.0 cm
SOLD
A highly important old specimen featuring a 5.3-cm-long crystal of jet-black aegirine in matrix, from Arkansas. The crystal is razor sharp and has high luster. It is, to me, shocking that this could come from Arkansas! I had only ever seen tiny worthless specimens of aegirine before, and compared to them this piece is the king of aegirines here. It carries a label from the Houston Museum, where it was accessioned in 1985 as part of the multimillion dollar donation by oilman Perkin Sams. It was deaccessioned in 1996 and hidden away in a collection until now. I regard this as a MAJOR United States specimen for this rare species
