Smithsonite
Santa Eulalia District, Mun. de Aquiles Serdan, Chihuahua, Mexico
Small Cabinet, 5.2 x 4.0 x 2.0 cm
SOLD
A really sparkling, and unusual, crust of thick botryoidal smithsonite from this locality. Smithsonite from here tends to be dull in luster. This, however, from a new find, is sparkling as if covered by fine grains of sugar. The color in person is beige/tan. It is translucent, when strongly backlit, along the edges of the plate where the smithsonite hangs off a thin matrix of rock crust. The 3-dimensionality is really nice, as the crystals mound atop a hollow cast underneath. This is pristine on the display faces and comes from a small find of June 2009.
