Baryte, Fluorite
Berbes Mining area, Ribadesella, Asturias, Spain
Large Cabinet, 17.0 x 17.0 x 9.0 cm

The Berbes locality is best-known for its fluorites, but also produced wonderful barytes; you often see them in association with one another, though the fluorites are usually the main feature. However, here, on this very large specimen, it is beautiful blue-grey barytes that is the main feature, on a field of amber fluorites. The barytes are attractively isolated in rows and fans on the fluorites rather than massed together. They measure to 3.5 cm tip-to-tip. This is an older specimen that came out of the Rolf Wein Collection of Germany.
