The name 'Berbes' is practically synonymous with fine, clear to purple, sharp cubic Fluorites. This inviting, large small-cabinet piece speaks to the fine Fluorites collected early on at Berbes (pre-1990s). The crystals are very sharp, deep purple, with a silky luster that belies just how gemmy the Fluorites really are. A little bit of light will reveal the gemminess, and good backlighting will expose the well-defined, deep purple phantoms that are classic Berbes. The largest crystal is about 2.6 cm on edge, and virtually all of the larger crystals have a stepped modification that runs smack down the middle of some of the faces. When you take the time to really notice this, it is really quite intriguing. The Fluorites have a deep purple fluorescence, more noticeable along the edges where the Fluorite is thinner. Naturally, the piece is contacted around the edges from when it came out, but on balance this is a fine, aesthetic, old-time Berbes Fluorite.
