This sharp and full size thumbnail specimen is a dramatic example of neptunite from the world's best locality for the species, the strange benitoite deposit of Northern California. It features a robust crystal, 2.3 cm, thick and meaty with high luster, perched against white natrolite matrix, and accented by small blue benitoite triangles. This is a historic piece from old finds, as the big neptunites of this quality largely came out in the 1980s or before. It is from the noted collection of Sam Nasser, which many of us saw in exhibits for years in competition cases all over Arizona and SoCal. We were fortunate to purchase much of his collection at one time in the early 2000s, and find we still had this, in flats lost long ago in my warehouse.
