This superb, geometric, sharp crystal is thought by many who have seen it to be one of the finest examples of the species, certainly as a competitive thumbnail. it is large, and impactful, in person. It has a shape that commands attention. It is about twice the size of the next largest we have seen, and nearly 4x the size of an average example of this species. It is a perfect textbook single tetragonal – trapezohedral crystal that was collected by and from the legendary Canadian field collector, Rod Tyson of Tysons’ Fine Minerals, Parrsboro, Nova Scotia, Canada. Acquired by Alex from Rod as he carried a duffel bag of the best material from his recent finds, where he helicoptered in to his old collecting localities and spent a few weeks looking for more. He carried them down and sold them quietly during the Denver Gem & Minerals Show, September 18, 2015. This was the finest known thumbnail at that time. Alex bought it immediately on sight!
