- Mindola pit, Nkana Mine, Kitwe Dist., Copperbelt Prov., Zambia
- Thumbnail, 1.9 x 1.9 x 1.8 cm
- Ex. Robert Haag; James and Dawn Minette; Dr. Alex Schauss
Acquired by the connoisseur collector of thumbnails Jim Minette (1936-2002) on October 7, 1978, from Robert Haag (Tucson, Arizona). A 1.9 x 1.9 x 1.8 cm highly lustrous black crystal on matrix, this is a shockingly good representation of the species as a competitive thumbnail for balance, size, color. Nkana mine is noted for producing the best of species and exceptional aesthetic crystals of this rare copper mineral. This was one of Alex's first choices to obtain from the Minette collection portion dispersed at the time by Dan Weinrich, where he waited in line to acquire. Photo by Jeff Scovil. Photos of this specimen can be found in The Mineralogical Record, Arizona Mineral Collections, 2013, 44(3): 201, and featured in the book, Refined Elegance (Mineralogical Record, Nov. 2022) on page 129.
