Augelite on Quartz
Mundo Nuevo Mine, Huamachuco, La Libertad Dept., Peru
Miniature, 4.6 x 3.8 x 2.9 cm
SOLD

The world's best of species of this beautiful phosphate mineral came from Peru from a small series of pockets, now more than a decade ago in the early 2010s. Initially, they came from hidden/secret exports which were given other mine names to hide the true origin, here at the Ramos family's workings in Mundo Nuevo. Of those that were found, we certainly bought a large number of the best, including pieces now in museums and on the MR cover. From that lot, now a decade ago (but we reacquired it recently), this is an important and display-quality Augelite-Quartz miniature. Aesthetically nestled among slender, glassy and gemmy, colorless quartz crystals to 1.1 cm in length are two lustrous, gemmy, bicolored (zoned) green Augelite crystals, to 1.5 cm in length. The bodies of the Augelite crystals are a light apple-green with the edges a more intense bright green color, but overall this piece has Augelite of the deepest green hue you can ask for from the find. This specimen is a perfect miniature, with two superb Augelite crystals standing right at the top of the needle Quartz cluster as if placed there.
