Large Phenakites like this from the historic tsarist-era Emerald and Alexandrite mines of the Ural Mountains are incredibly rare on the market today, and those that do appear are from old collections. This is an important locality specimen featuring a robust, gemmy, essentially complete all around crystal of Phenakite with a little Biotite schist matrix. This Phenakite measures 5.55 cm across and is a translucent to transparent white with a roughly hexagonal shape exhibiting well-formed faces and a flat pinacoid termination. Significant, glistening gem areas in the crystal are evident everywhere on the sides and top resulting in a marvelous play of light within the crystal. The big crystal is mostly complete with only a small chip on one lower edge, a small contact at the top, and then intergrown with biotite schist on the backside where there is a vestige of a partial termination there. This is a very good and very beautiful Phenakite from the Ural Mountains! It has minor matrix underneath and is complete. This came out in the 1990s, and was long in the worldwide giant crystal collection of Robert Nowakowski, sold and resold since then. It is an important example, in a good size. 141 grams
