Here is an old-time Staurolite cluster nicely set on, and in, a schist matrix from the classic Cook Road Staurolite locality in Maine. The sharp, lustrous, dark brown, monoclinic crystals are largely undamaged and measure up to 1.5 cm in length. There are over a dozen crystals that compose the cluster set aesthetically at the top of the piece and several small ones set within the sparkling biotite-quartz schist matrix. They display well with their glossy coffee color and their well-defined edges and terminations. A couple of the crystals are slightly contacted on the side and back. otherwise excellent for this classic locale. Ex. New York State Museum.
