Indicolite Tourmaline
Minas Gerais, Brazil
Miniature, 4.6 x 2.8 x 2.0 cm
SOLD

This stunning, nearly two inch Tourmaline crystal is an attractive combination of watermelon Tourmaline and banded indicolite from a Brazilian pegmatite. The bottom half of the crystal is clearly watermelon with its substantial pink core and green-blue rim and then the top half consists of a 1.5 cm thick, rich teal-blue indicolite band that transitions abruptly into a medium teal-green indicolite band right up to the flat, lustrous pinacoid termination. The prism faces are also lustrous and modestly striated and show a trivial amount of edgewear and a few areas where small Tourmalines might have been attached. This piece is absolutely beautiful with or without backlighting as the color saturation is perfect to transmit light. This gorgeous Tourmie comes with a custom engraved acrylic base. An old specimen, already in the USA by the 1990s, and in the Hubert de Monmonier collection which went to the University of Arizona Museum. Some pieces, such as this, were later traded out or used for other acquisitions. 62 grams
