Acanthite with Silver

This is a dramatic acanthite, so sharp and well-defined that it looks more machined than natural, in some spots. The piece consists of a single elongated crystal of acanthite stretching from top to bottom, with secondary crystals to nearly 4 cm sprouting out like thick branches on a tree. It is tremendously impactful on display (vertical or horizontal are equally nice!), and quite large. The piece is 360 degrees complete. It has, as a bonus, small specks of native silver in some crevasses near the base of the branching crystals. This acanthite specimen is from the major find of approximately 2008-2010, when a number of excellent pieces came out, were well-collected, and not burned with acid to clean them. A prior find also produced major specimens, but many were ruined by overcleaning or bad collecting technique. Later finds (not many, but a few), to my eye, are generally smaller and spindlier crystals without this robust look. So, overall, I view this particular style as the most valued of several different finds of acanthite from China. However, this particular piece is easily able to rank up there in display value with most of the best of German, Moroccan, or Mexican specimens from older finds (although those older materials are seen only at far higher valuations on the market). In other words, this is a dramatic Chinese mineral specimen, and also just damned good for the species no matter where it is from. 142 grams
