Zincian Olivenite of this size, deeply saturated color and style only came out once from Tsumeb, probably in the early 1980s. Specimens are very seldom seen for sale. This is a choice single crystal" toenail"-sized specimen with classic intense green color and exceptional luster characteristic of the find. This monster of a crystal is robust and dramatic; it measures 3.1cm from tip to tip across the top longest dimension on the diagonal...HUGE! The color of this piece is a shockingly deep and opaque emerald green color with minute patches of a slightly lighter green for added appeal and slight contrast. The periphery of the piece reveals the radial divergent character. This certainly is a choice toenail for the discerning collector of rare Tsumeb things, but more than that, this is just a fantastic Olivenite and a colorful specimen! A fine piece with great aesthetics, it is a small miniature or a box buster large thumbnail, depending on how you angle it. I grew up with these labelled as Cuprian Adamite, but then they were reclassified on further analysis as Zincolivenite, recently. ex Willy Israel Collection, sold to Doug Wallace and Rob Lavinsky back around 2010.
