Fluorite on Quartz
Ruyuan fluorite mine, Ruyuan Co., Shaoguan, Guangdong, China
Large Cabinet, 18.0 x 11.8 x 7.8 cm
SOLD

One particular find in 2015 at the Ruyuan fluorite mine has elevated its well-known green Fluorites to a whole new level. These gemmy, large Fluorites are a new level of translucency for the location and have a lovely, mint-green color. The color grades from a rich, dark core to a lighter surface, and that surface has a uniform, silky luster that gives the crystals visual heft. The superb, stepped-growth habit creates a look that very much resembles a Mayan pyramid, and the largest crystal is a substantial 7 cm on edge. Looking like the Great Pyramids, the Fluorites rest across an undulating matrix of sharp, white Quartz crystals. The Fluorites have a rich, blue fluorescence, and the overall aesthetics are excellent. Good in the pics, this large cabinet specimen is even better in person as it is very hard to capture the true combination of depth/gemminess/dimensionality in a still photo! This find, to me, is one of the great fluorite finds of China. When you see in person, it is obvious why I feel so strongly about it. All sold long ago, but this piece was larger, and was exchanged out of a collection because of its rather ungainly bulk - and then I trimmed it down over the last 2 years to a good size after a bit of risk and 2 different trims from the bottom. It is the only one of this quality I know of, remaining on the market.
