A 3km hike up steep terrain from the resort town of Ensenada, Baja California, Mexico, leads to the San Quintin skarn deposit. The locality produced great Epidote crystals; however, these spectacular Chrome Titanites came out as well. Typically the crystals are more of an olive-green color, but this specimen shows off its grass-green color. Kay Robertson purchased this super-cute thumbnail in 1972 at the Seward-Anaheim Show. The crystal has characteristic defined striations, though the edges of the crystals do show signs of wear and bruising (typical of this old material). A cute piece from an interesting locality! Large for the location, as well!
