Franklinite
Sterling Hill Mine, Franklin, Sussex County, New Jersey, USA
Cabinet, 10.7 x 6.8 x 3.5 cm
SOLD
Oldtime specimens like this, in dealers stocks, are getting scarce. This specimen is highlighted by a single, complete, black, octahedron of franklinite, with matte luster. This crystal measures 2.5 cm in length, and is perched high on a matrix of franklinite, zincite, and fluorescent calcite and willemite. It goes without saying that this specimen will fluoresce wildly in green and orange for those species. Large, intact franklinites ar every rare, more so than people think. Most old ones were polished, fille dwith shoe polish, and otherwise tampered with to improve them in the past eras of collecting.
