Native Bismuth (Type Locality)
Schneeberg District, Erzgebirge, Saxony, Germany
Thumbnail, 2.7 x 2.1 x 1.6 cm
Ex. Kay Robertson
SOLD

The Schneeberg District, Erzgebirge, is the Type Locality for Bismuth. This thumbnail is solid Bismuth, with the matrix being a dense cluster of rare sharp crystals adorned by several larger (up to 1 cm) Bismuth crystals. As Bismuth crystals go, they are well-formed and have a matte black luster. Granted, this isn't the most elegant of mineral specimens, but it is likely from the 1800's and it is significant for the species. Nowadays, Bismuth specimens of this quality are just available when old collections are offered for sale. #2484 in Kay's collection, she acquired this thumbnail in 1962 from Walt Lidstrom
