Milarite With Valencianite
Valenciana Mine, Mun. de Guanajuato, Guanajuato, Mexico
Cabinet, 11.7 x 10.0 x 7.6 cm
SOLD
An old classic from Mexico, rarely seen today! Sharp, prismatic, barrel shaped crystals of milarite to 5 mm across festoon a matrix of valencianite, a rare translucent variety of orthoclase. The valencianite crystals are tabular, lustrous and slightly translucent, with a slight curvature. This is the classic locality for them. The color is stark white and the crystals reach 1.6 cm across, contrasting nicely with the rare species milarite, perched upon them. We have seen only a very few examples of this material turn up in recent years, all out of museum collections (as did this one - provenance given with sale) .
