Zoisite Var. Tanzanite
Merelani Mines, Arusha Region, Tanzania
Miniature, 3.7 x 1.7 x 1.4 cm

This glassy and gemmy tanzanite exhibits an unusual light apple-green color. Although the crystal is transparent and glassy, it is not gem rough, per se. The color goes through more or less intensity depending on lighting, and ranges from a slightly more yellow to a more green tint, depending. It is complete all around save only for an attachment contact to the back side of the termination (visible from above, but not when the piece is stood up on a shelf at eye level or above). The gem weight is 90.11 carats. Notably, these crystals were found at their best, it seems, around the mid-2000s and I have not seen this quality in years. This piece first came to me around 2005-2007 when I bought several large lots, and it sold to a collector at the time and came back in exchange only recently.
