Smithsonite on Cerussite With Mimetite
Tsumeb Mine, Tsumeb, Otjikoto Region, Namibia
Cabinet, 12.5 x 9.0 x 4.0 cm
SOLD
Flashy, rich specimen of khaki-colored flattened smithsonite crystals (they are rhombohedra, but truncated). There are hundreds of these lustrous rhombs, the largest of which is about 1.2 cm in size. The matrix feels hefty! It is made up of massive to partially crystalline Cerussite, and in many of the small pockets are gemmy, acicular crystals of yellow Mimetite. These can range to 8 mm in length, maybe more. Dominated by the sharp, excellent large field of smithsonite atop, this is a very classic Tsumeb combination piece with both mineralogical interest and good aesthetics.
