Miniature, 4.1 x 3.5 x 2.3 cm
Manganese deposit, Ilfeld, Nordhausen, Harz Mts, Thuringia, Germany
Really a quite sharp miniature of manganite from the best find ever in history, from the mid-1880s in Ilfeld. These lustrous, fat crystals set a standard that has never been beaten. And, obviously, as they came from one 20-meter vein 125 years ago, they are hard to get as specimens. This miniature is mostly complete, with almost all those crystals on the front having terminations, and displays nicely. 4.1 x 3.5 x 2.3cm
