Lazulite
Rapid Creek, Dawson Mining District, Yukon Territory, Canada
Miniature, 3.4 x 2.9 x 2.2 cm
SOLD
Lazulite is a rare magnesium aluminum phosphate, and some of the finest, highly sought after, and best known specimens of this material come from this locality. The area around Rapid Creek is only accessible for a few months in the summer for collecting (it's under snow and ice the rest of the year), and is some of the most treacherous terrain in the world for collecting specimens. This specimen is a beautiful display piece featuring superb quality, sharp, highly lustrous, very well formed, monoclinic, deep inky blue color crystals of Lazulite measuring up to 11 mm on matrix. This specimen was collected 3 years ago, when there was a great boom of spectacular Lazulite specimens.
