Centennial No. 2 Shaft, Centennial Mine, Centennial, Houghton Co., Michigan, USA
Cabinet, 11.75 x 7.75 x 4.3 cm
SOLD
A large and significant copper specimen that is quite sculptural, well crystallized and with a very NICE antique bronzed patina. The old label that came with it actually identifies it as having come from the north side of the Centennial #2, "under the lode," unusually specific for a specimen and indicative of the perceived importance of the specimen. It also dates the piece to the period between the late 1800s and 1920 or so (see the MR issue on Michigan Copper country for the rich history of this district!). 11.75 x 7.75 x 4.3 cm
