Malachite on Azurite
Christiana Mine, Lavrion, Lavreotiki, Attica, Greece

Ex. Christos Spiromitros

Delicate and darling, this large thumbnail sized example of Malachite on Azurite is from the Christiana Mine within the larger group of ancient mines in the Lavrion area that go back thousands of years. The sharp blades of Azurite, arranged in a bouquet-like spray, are translucent and have very vibrant and high luster (at the top of anything we have seen for Greek azurite). They are nicely complemented by an elongated ball of vibrant, deep-green Malachite positioned perfectly atop the Azurite - altogether an unusual aesthetic more reminiscent of Tsumeb than of Greece. Collected in 2017 from recent diggings within the ancient and classic Lavrion Mining District.
