Alex Schauss prided his collection on having the broadest possible representation of superb crystalline examples of the most rare species possible, particularly things considered by others to be obscure, dark, unworthy of exhibit. Here we have a truly superb, lustrous black terminated crystal with a small single crystal at mid-level on the side of the larger crystal. Pargas is the type locality for Pargasite. According to Alex, this was one of the 35 displayed specimens that won the 2010 Paul Desautel Trophy for Best Mineral Case in Competition at the Tucson Gem & Mineral Show. Shockingly for a boring rock forming mineral that is normally grainy and dull, this has luster!
