The Piedmont region of Italy, right at the Swiss border, has produced fine alpine minerals for hundreds of years, and this matrix Cafarsite (calcium-titanium-iron-manganese arsenate) specimen is no exception. It features a single, well-formed Cafarsite crystal that is a rich burgundy-brown sitting atop a small knob of matrix with small Quartz crystals. The modified octahedron measures to 1.3 cm across and is so nicely balanced! Very 3-dimensional, and so this is an excellent, aesthetic thumbnail for the species. The Type Locality for Cafarsite is also on Mt. Cervandone, although just across the Swiss border (still, it is the same deposit as nature does not care about geography of human nations)! Overall, a very good specimen of competitive quality for the species.
