This is an incredible crystal cluster of this rare hydrated sodium-calcium carbonate from Searles Lake in California. Rarely do we ever see good crystal clusters of Gaylussite from here or anywhere, especially associated with matrix! The complex, whitish to pale gray crystals measure up to 4 cm in length and almost have a corrugated appearance due to their complex inter-growth. A gray clay mineral constitutes the matrix and the material in between the crystals. As with many of these, it shows some partial alteration on the surface, perhaps to borax. This is certainly the finest matrix piece we have seen of the species from this locality. Ex. Robert Reynolds and Dawn and Jim Minette collections with labels.
