Copper inclusions in calcite are well known from the upper Michigan copper district, although sharp and terminated crystals have always been rare - far more rare than the superb copper specimens from the region's historic mines. Most of these were found in the late 1800s into the early 1900s and saved as unique treasures since those days. They are among the world's best most might say, or perhaps the best, copper-included calcites. This is a relatively large, fine, single crystal showing both freestanding copper on the exterior AND rich, brilliant and bright, copper inclusions within. The combination within and without is unusual. Although here in the Flynn Thumbnail collection, he kinda cheated...it is in the box at an extreme diagonal, pushed into the styrofoam. It is definitely, more properly, a miniature.
