This relatively large display specimen of ancient liroconite has a good association with clinoclase, as well. These ONLY came out in the early 1800s, mostly prior to 1850, and such color saturation is rare. Most are in museums, compared to what remains in private collections. This piece comes from several major collections to me (Neeld to Obodda to Godshaw, then to Graeber and to Sherburn), and was said by these reliable people to be from the Joseph Neeld collection, circa 1800. Colonel Joseph Neeld, 1789--1856, was a Member of Parliament of the United Kingdom and a Colonel in the Royal army. His collection, long forgotten and lost track of, resurfaced in England in the early 1980s. Many of the better pieces were bought by mineral dealer Herb Obodda and soon made their way into prominent USA collections of the time, including Marion Godshaw's - she was a very prominent and active member of the Southern California collecting community at that time. She later sold her collection through Cal and Kerith Graeber, and they sold this to Tim in 1989 for his English collection. Neeld had no labels, but this does come with Marion and TIm's labels, and his notes the history as well.
