A remarkably sharp, brilliantly lustrous, vivid blue crystal of azurite perched upon malachite makes you immediately think of something from Milpillas, Mexico - but this is a rare Chinese example of azurite that reaches the crystal quality we now associate with Mexican finds. The sharp crystal is 2.5 cm across, razor edged, complete all around. It is highly unusual in that it is isolated, and more so that it is perched on the chatoyant, velvety style of malachite from this location. Normally, this style of malachite does not associate with azurite of quality. Both are famous styles - but to see together, is uncommon. From a 2021 find. In person, and in sunlight or LED light, the sparkling chatoyancy of the malachite is captivating and the contrasts here are highly unusual.
