Although Sri Lanka is famous for its amazing gem crystals, it has produced the world's best Graphite crystals! This is a large, very bright, foliated, very sculptural specimen of steel-gray, elemental carbon with a super greasy feel, as you would expect. Sri Lanka is noted for so many species of gem crystals, that one can forget it was once also important source for Graphite. This is an exceptional Graphite specimen from Sri Lanka, or from any locality for that matter due to both its size and perfection in form. This is certainly a competitive miniature and is something nobody has, nor would expect to have, in a case of fancy crystal species on exhibit! It has a mass of 10.65 grams. It comes with a custom engraved acrylic base. We obtained this in a very old assortment of collection material over a decade ago and it is not contemporary. I have seen pieces from the same deposit going back to the 1800s, so no telling how old this one is.
