This is a ridiculously HUGE single crystal of the rare earth element species Bastnaesite with such size, luster, and color richness that it is at first easily mistaken for a BARYTE! Seldom do we see them so large from any locale. This piece has a rich leather-brown color and waxy luster, making it a rare large display-quality specimen that can stand with more sexy gem species on a shelf. The upwards-splaying shape is natural, if a bit oddly shaped for the species. It is complete, although contacted where it grew against other minerals or host rock. A major example of the species in display size, from the noted personal collection of dealer Herb Obodda, who brought so many of them out from Zagi when it first produced, in the early 2000s.
