Wulfenite on Calcite
Los Lamentos, Mun. de Ahumada, Chihuahua, Mexico
Cabinet, 11.6 x 11.4 x 6.8 cm

Hundreds of glistening, butterscotch-colored Wulfenite crystals embellish white, botryoidal Calcite on this classic piece from the Erupcion Mine at Los Lamentos (probably from the 1960s or 1970s). The myriad of scintillating, thin, transparent, window panes of Wulfenite are a fairly uniform 2 to 4 mm across and richly covers the white Calcite that shows through in places for great contrast. This is a very three-dimensional piece with an underlying broadly curving surface of Calcite comprised of arching, smaller botryoids, ridges and a few protruding small rounded knobs. The back and bottom reveal the banded character of the Calcite that in some places is white and other areas honey-colored making for an attractive matrix. Ex. Gary Weaver collection with label.
