An extremely colorful and contrasting specimen of solid, layered Sugilite on and in a charcoal gray-brown matrix. Lustrous and almost chatoyant, purple Sugilite fibrous crystals to 5mm on and in matrix from the famous Wessels Mine in South Africa. Sugilite is a rare lithium silicate and these are relatively large and distinct, although fibrous, crystals for the species. The prominent surface displays long, radial fibrous, felted, two-dimensional aggregates of royal purple Sugilite and Sugilite is also found on a 2 x 1.2cm patch on the bottom of the piece and as thin veinlets transecting the matrix.
