Carbonatecyanotrichite
Qinglong Mine, Qinglong, Qianxinan, Guizhou, China
Small Cabinet, 9.0 x 4.1 x 3.4 cm
SOLD
A stunningly colorful two-tone dark sky blue and royal blue Carbonatecyanotrichite small cabinet piece from China. Formerly named simply Cyanotrichite, the recently renamed Carbonatecyanothrichite covers most of the display side of this piece in a large, continuous carpet as a dense, lovely, velvety carpet of very fine, acicular crystals. Two patches are of a rich, darker blue also have a saturated color that is simply the deepest blue we have seen in this material, or this species. There are also two, chalk-white, anhedral (without crystal outline) forms just over a centimeter at one end of the piece that may be etched Calcite and they add contrast. Veinlets of Carbonatecyanotrichite are inside the grayish to tan matrix as well. It should be noted that many of the world occurrences for "Cyanotrichite" are turning out to be Carbonatecyanotrichite upon analysis, but blue is blue and this....is VERY blue.
