Copper (Wires) in Calcite
Osceola Mine, Houghton County, Michigan, USA
Thumbnail, 2.5 x 2.2 x 0.8 cm

Thick Copper wires from the late 1800's and early 1900s were characteristic of the Osceola Mine, and in 2003 there was a find of exceptional, fine wires (actually, elongated spinel twinned crystals). This piece has aesthetics in spades, with two copper wires penetrating Calcite rhombs, and actually terminating right by each other as they emerge from the same Calcite crystal. The pictures pretty well tell the story of this killer thumbnail.
