These translucent, deep amber-colored uvite tourmalines are from one small find in Pakistan, from which we acquired a flat of specimens. Uvites are a very uncommon varietal of tourmaline. Most collectors are familiar only with the red and green ones from Bahia, Brazil, and maybe one or two other localities. So when new ones turn up, it always generates a lot of interest, particularly amongst tourmaline collectors. Like the uvites from Brazil, these do not have the usual prismatic tourmaline form, but are almost garnet-like in appearance. They are attractively isolated on a stark white contrasting matrix. The largest crystal here is over one centimeter across (though most are significantly smaller) .
