Braen Quarry (Braen Stone Industry Quarry; Sam Braen Quarry), Haledon, Passaic Co., New Jersey, USA
The Braen Quarry was for many years a seldom collected locality, but recently some daring individuals made their way into the quarry to collect some very attractive Stilbite and Stellerite specimens. The majority of Stellerite found around the world is opaque, and rarely gemmy, let alone gem quality. This particular piece features outstanding, lustrous, gemmy, colorless, "jelly"-like, sphere-shaped radiating aggregates of Stellerite measuring up to 4 mm on basalt. It is incredibly rare to find gem quality stellerite from any locality, as most specimens are completely opaque. This is a great small miniature size specimen of an uncommon Zeolite. This specimen is from a fairly recent find in this historic quarry, and was one of the last pieces that Rich Kosnar acquired before he died. Ex. Richard Kosnar Collection.
