Pyrrhotite
Santa Eulalia District, Mun. de Aquiles Serdan, Chihuahua, Mexico

A classic and very fine, large pyrrhotite specimen from Santa Eulalia. Some of the best pyrrhotites in the world have come from Santa Eulalia and this is an excellent example. The sharp, hexagonal crystals have a pleasing brown-bronze color and very striking, highly lustrous, golden-brown terminations. The patina is really unique. The large crystal is 5.5 cm wide near the base. Rosettes of tiny calcite scalenohedrons preferentially and richly coat some faces and are a fine accent. This specimen is complete-all-around and has only modest contacting on the backside. Specimens of this old-time quality and color came out in the 1960s and 1970s. Ex. Consie Prince Collection.
