Heulandite
Teigarhorn, Berufjordur, Suour-Mulasysla, Iceland
Cabinet, 11.0 x 6.5 x 3.8 cm
SOLD
Pearlescent clusters of heulandite cover the thin basalt matrix on this important old specimen from Iceland. Before India, these Icelandic zeolites set the standard and were considered both superb specimens and a mark of the sophisticated collector. Crystals reach 2.8 cm on this historic specimen from the Schwethelm and Leithauser Collections. The specimen comes with a George English label that dates from 1893-1898, so this piece is easily over 100 years old. This is still a superb heulandite even compared to modern Indian material, although it's a major rarity and classic.
