Halite
Wieliczka Mine, Wieliczka, Malopolskie, Poland
Cabinet, 11.9 x 7.8 x 6.2 cm
SOLD
This rare cabinet matrix specimen is from the most famous, and possibly the oldest underground salt mine in the world - the Wieliczka Mine, Poland. It features a sculptural cluster of intergrown, yet separate, almost transparent cubes of halite measuring up to 3.2 cm across. The crystals are colorless and they have a satiny/lightly frosted finish. It is truly classic for the locality and very visually impressive as well. Ex. Dave Stoudt Collection. Dave lived and worked in Poland and according to his catalog he obtained this piece in Krakow in June, 1998.
