Halite on Sylvite
Kerr McGee Mine, Carlsbad Potash District, Eddy County, New Mexico
Miniature, 4.7 x 4.0 x 2.9 cm
SOLD
Exquisitely perched high on a matrix of lustrous and gemmy, colorless sylvite crystals, to 1.2 cm across, is a single, doubly-terminated, glassy and gemmy, elongated cube of rich blue halite measuring 1.7 cm on an edge. For its size, this is a world class specimen and miniature! From the personal collection of the mining man who collected them all, this was in his exhibit case at Tucson that was sold to pay for grad school. I regard it as not the biggest or the most expensive, but simply as one of the finest of the find, in terms of quality and dramatic contrasts. Note that access is now prohibited and no more will be found or collected.
